The story of NBC News' Chief Foreign Affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell running a highly edited clip of Mitt Romney on her MSNBC show, "Andrea Mitchell Reports", to make Romney look like an out of touch doofus has been widely reported on, but I wanted to also weigh in it.
This is the purpose of MediaPolitical, not to just point out liberal media bias, but to show you how the left uses the media as a weapon to shape public opinion. This is a blatant and stomach churning example of it. After all these years, Andrea Mitchell finally was caught red handed in her bias and her lies to the public. Let us first look at how Mitchell covered this story on her MSNBC show, this video runs about 50 seconds.
Before Mitchell plays the Romney video, she asks the Washington Post's Chris Cillizza if this may be Romney's "scanner moment" referring to President H.W. Bush's remarks about a price scanner in a grocery store. The liberal media blew that story out of proportion at the time too, but it made Bush look out of touch, which was their goal. Mitchell's purpose here is the same. Next is the full video of Romney's speech, it runs about 4 minutes, but it shows how MSNBC's editors carefully cut this video to show Romney as being out of touch in Mitchell's report.
As you can clearly see, the way Andrea Mitchell presented this story is not how it really was. MSNBC edited out the part about the doctor and made it sound like Romney was amazed by this machine you pushed a couple buttons on to order a sandwich, thus making Romney sound like he was out of touch with common people. When in fact, the speech he gave comparing private sector efficiency verses government inefficiency made total sense and was a very good example of this. It was also a well delivered, off the cuff speech, but MSNBC's edit made Romney sound like a doofus.
Once this story was brought to light by right wing bloggers, the liberal website Politico ran a story on this which at least implied that Mitchell had no knowledge of how this video had been edited. This Politico story also points out that this highly edited video had been run once in the morning before Mitchell's show, as if to clear her. But enough of a stink was made that I guess Andrea felt a very minor need to address this. The following video is how Mitchell explained or didn't explain herself. Video runs 50 seconds.
Mitchell did not explain how she took Romney out of context, she made no effort at all. She also made no effort to explain how this was in fact not a "scanner moment" which she thought was so humorous just the day before. She made no effort at all to show the parts of the speech where Romney talked about the doctor or his problems with government red tape. Mitchell blew this off as if it was nothing.
Even though I believe Mitchell knew full well what she was doing, let us take the media narrative at face value that Andrea had no knowledge the clip was edited this way. Some producer just handed her the story saying look at this, Mitt Romney is an out of touch goof. Wouldn't you think after the fact when the truth came out she would go on air and say I made a mistake, I am sorry ? Then explain what happened and how she made such a huge error ? Of course not, to say that would admit to liberal bias. You could waterboard Mitchell and she wouldn't admit her liberal bias.
Do you know why Mitchell did this ? Because she has done this stuff for years and always got away with it. She is not used to being called on her bias. She is not used to being called a liberal hack. Andrea Mitchell, long time journalist, former White House reporter, current NBC chief foreign affairs correspondent cannot be challenged about her bias. She has earned respect and respect must be given to her. At least in her own warped liberal mind.
I didn't make these videos up. It is very clear what Mitchell was doing. So what if her producers edited the video in a way to show Romney in the most negative way and she didn't know ? It is her TV show that has her name on it, and a big shot like her has final say over content. Mitchell is responsible for what is shown. Andrea owns the lie that she not only broadcast once, she owns the second time she lied about it and refused to offer any explanation or apology for it.
It is one thing for Rachel Maddow to go on her primetime MSNBC show and spout off liberal lies, it is clear that is an opinion show. Mitchell pawns herself off a legit newswoman. But this is how the liberal media works, it is how they shape public opinion. This is how 20% of the population (liberals) carries an inordinate amount of political influence, they use the power of the media to influence the majority. This tool is called propaganda and has nothing in common with journalism. The liberal media bang the public's head with this tool daily.
Some would argue (liberals) that a minor little story like this is no big deal. This is what the liberal media wants, not to put it all in your face at once. Their propaganda is very subtle, you can call it death by a thousand tiny cuts. Single little stories like Mitchell's when told day after day, by all of the media, add up to create a mental impression of a candidate or issue in the public's mind. Liberals fully understand this and it is in this way they control the narrative.
Andrea Mitchell may have been a journalist years ago (I doubt it), but for at least the last 25, she has been nothing more than a liberal propagandist. Mitchell's refusal to apologize for this goes beyond proving she is just a snotty pompous arrogant bitch, it is an admission of guilt and shows it is something she holds no shame for doing. The words integrity and Andrea Mitchell should never be used in the same sentence, unless lack of or none also appear in that sentence.
