Who really stole Baby Jesus ?

By Donna Cole

When a lawyer enters a courtroom to prosecute a crime, he or she must first provide evidence of the crime, then if necessary, provide a motive for this crime. I would like to submit to you the evidence of a crime, then discuss the motive for this crime.

Nov. 30th, The Daily Courier, Arizona, "Who Stole Baby Jesus ? Prescott couple's nativity figure gets swiped". Baby Jesus figure stolen from private home.

Dec. 2nd, Chambersburg Public Opinion, Pennsylvania, "Christmas figures stolen from Chambersburg porch in daylight hours". Local woman has displayed same nativity scene for the past 27 years. This is the second Baby Jesus figure stolen in area, the first was from a local church lawn. The church had displayed their nativity in a public park for 30 years until three years ago when atheists objected.

Dec. 9th, Daily Review Atlas, Illinois, "Baby Jesus stolen, recovered". Five Monmouth College sorority sisters stole the Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus and stable animal figures from a nativity. Other figures, not stolen, were knocked over in this public display. They were quickly caught by police due to a witness. Monmouth is a private Presbyterian college.

In a related story from Dec. 14th, also in the Daily Review Atlas, "Where in the world is Monmouth's baby Jesus ?"  This story details how upon the return of the figures the sorority sisters stole, the college figured out that this Baby Jesus was in fact a doll that had been used to replace the original figure. The original figure was stolen in the days prior to the sorority women's theft and is still missing.

Dec. 9th, Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Massachusetts, "Nativity Jesus, camel stolen". Baby Jesus figure and camel figure stolen from a private home.

Dec. 13th, Carroll County News, Arkansas, "Baby Jesus safe -- for now."  Privately donated, by local college sorority, this nativity is displayed in public park. The Baby Jesus figure is connected to an alarm system and watched by a surveillance camera that live streams to the local police department due to previous thefts. Camera and alarm were also donated by the sorority. Still, a lamb figure was stolen, it was found later by police in front of a local hotel.

The previous twenty one stories detail the theft of as many Baby Jesus figures. The evidence of the crime is before you and not in dispute. The motive of this crime is what needs to be detailed for a conviction.

Are these simple crimes ? They are charged the same as if I stole a bicycle from your yard. Your bicycle carries a real value. I can ride it for transportation, but I can also sell it for cash. The bike has a real, fiscal value. A Baby Jesus figure does not.

I am sorry, but smashing a pumpkin or stealing a Jack o' lantern on Halloween is not the same thing. While not a true hate crime, most of these crimes are committed due to hatred, or at the least by a strong lack of conscience.

If one chalks this up to teenage pranks, then I ask you where was these teenager's faith ? Where was his or her respect for other's religion ? Where was his or her respect for our society ? Why did they feel the need to go and steal a Baby Jesus figure ? Why did he or she feel the need to go after something so personal to Christians ?

I have blogged extensively on why liberals are the awful people they are. Not all, but for the most, it is due to a lack of conscience. The lack of an ability to feel real human empathy is a hallmark of liberalism. This mental condition leads to large amount of self loathing, which then leads liberals to act out their personal miseries by making other's lives miserable too.

I would contend to the men and women of this jury that the crime of stealing these Baby Jesus figures is a result of progressive anti-Christian ideology pushed on American society for the past 50 years, politically correct liberal child rearing by coddling and a lack of personal responsibility or respect for other's property taught in modern public education.

All these things are brought about by a lack of conscience. This secular belief of curing one's self loathing by acting out has now infested our general society, and these thefts of the Baby Jesus are just another angry manifestation of it.

 I ask you to convict.
