After the dust began to settle from the '08 election, it became clear to many Conservatives that we had to work harder than we ever have before. We had to break our long silence. We knew we had to get our message out and make clear to our party what type of candidates we would tolerate. The success of this in the 2010 election cannot be denied.
So our hopes for 2012 could not be higher, but we all knew the specter of a tall thin man stood waiting in the shadows for his chance. The 2010 election gave us the courage to reject the "next guy in line" rule of the Republican establishment, but I think our quest for the non establishment candidate and ideologically purity has driven many of us to madness.
First, Michele Bachmann announced her candidacy and she enjoyed her day in the sun. As evening came, her sun set and we moved on.
Then Rick Perry rode in to save the day like John Wayne in a cowboy movie. Only John Wayne never fell off his horse and landed on his head. At least on camera. I wish a reporter would just ask Perry how to spell potato and officially end his campaign once and for all.
Herman Cain was waiting to pick up Bachmann and Perry's pieces much the way he picks up women in bars. My mother told me to never trust a man I met in a bar ( or in this case a pizza parlor ) , because you are not his first and certainly not his last. Boy, was she right.
Now the Republican nomination process has become a revival of "The Music Man" with Newt Gingrich singing and dancing his phony bit across the stage, ready to sell the Republicans a bill of goods and pursue the prettiest girl in town.
Let's leave aside Newt is a womanizer who could go toe to toe with Bill Clinton and Herman Cain swapping wild "hot babe" stories. Gingrich is a paragon of grift. I think the man could lie about his mother's name and pass a polygraph test. He is a perfect example of everything the Tea Party has fought against and why Washington is broken and corrupt.
Gingrich is a political opportunist and a big government crony capitalist, who has made himself rich by using and abusing his inside Washington connections. This man has never had an executive position in his life, not even manager of a pizza parlor. Newt Gingrich has as much experience in an executive office, public or private, as Barry Obama did the day he took the Oath of Office.
Just the fact that in 2008, Newt starred in an Al Gore funded TV commerical about the danger of global warming with Nancy Pelosi should be bad enough. But he filmed it while promoting his own book about so called "green Conservatism" titled "Contract with the Earth". Newt says he now regrets doing the TV ad, but I doubt he returned his paycheck to Mr. Gore. If anything, this shows poor judgment. Unless your just in it for the money.
Don't forget that he made over a million dollars from Freddie Mac working as a "historian", that he rejected Paul Ryan's Road Map for America's Future or that he has prostituted himself over a decade for Big Daddy Ethanol. I think Newt has proven himself more suited for work in a brothel than the White House.
Normally, Broadway musicals are simply an evening of frivolous laughter and this is the reason I cannot understand why some Conservatives take Gingrich's candidacy seriously. How some can now support him is beyond me. We may want the "anybody except Romney" candidate, but Gingrich is the "worse than Romney" candidate as George Will recently wrote in his Washington Post column;
" Gingrich, who would have made a marvelous Marxist, believes everything is related to everything else and only he understands how. Conservatism, in contrast, is both cause and effect of modesty about understanding society’s complexities, controlling its trajectory and improving upon its spontaneous order. Conservatism inoculates against the hubristic volatility that Gingrich exemplifies and Genesis deplores: “Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel.” ."
I hope you now agree with me that Gingrich is not a Conservative and not electable even if he was. If you want to nominate a true Conservative candidate, but one who is totally unelectable and run a suicide mission just to prove some ideological point, chose a real Conservative like Michele Bachmann to do it. One who will fight to the bitter end and go down on the ship with you. The minute the Gingrich boat starts going down, he will be backstroking to the shore with sacks of cash, while you are sucked down with the ship.
What is wrong with you people ? Some of you need to climb down off your ideological high horses and realize that our most important job is defeating President Obama. Our nation cannot survive four more years of his Socialist policies. We defeat President Obama with our most electable candidate, not a woman with Sybil like characteristics, a doofus, a playboy pizza man, or a charlatan.
This leaves us with two candidates. Both of which are electable and can defeat Obama. One is a Conservative, one is not. They are Jon Huntsman and Mitt Romney. Romney is not the Conservative if you haven't figured that out yet. I suggest if the "anybody but Romney" crowd really wants a candidate who can win, you better start looking at Huntsman because he is all we Conservatives have left. Otherwise, if it is not Romney, all of us are going to drown on your ideological ship of fools.
