Would the following Presidential candidate pass your personal muster as Conservative enough ?
One who believes in American Exceptionalism and that the world is a better and safer place with America as the leader.
One who believes in a smaller and more efficient government, one whose personal record proves this.
One who believes in and supports Paul Ryan's Roadmap for America's Future and is the only Presidential candidate who does.
One who as governor signed legislation protecting citizen's Second Amendment rights.
One who supports school choice.
One who would dismantle Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and get the government out of the mortgage business.
One who would repeal the Dodd-Frank legislation that created the mortgage crisis.
One who would end the ' too big to fail ' financial institutions and banks to protect taxpayers from any future bailouts.
One who supports a Federal Reserve policy that creates a stable and sound dollar, not a devalued one. One who believes the dollar should maintain it's position as the world's primary reserve currency.
One who would repeal Obamacare. One who as a governor passed market based health care solutions keeping the government, and the taxpayers, out of the health care insurance business.
One who would work to repair Israeli - American relations. One who would work to instill confidence in Israel that America supports Israel's security over the creation of a Palestinian state, while supporting a negotiated peace process with Israel's security as the central interest.
One who realizes that the greatest threat to Israel is Iran and that Iran must not be allowed to build nuclear weapons.
One who believes that only Pakistan can save Pakistan and any future aid to them will be based on their good behavior.
One who would end the war in Afghanistan, while continuing counter terrorism operations there and continued training and support of Afghan security forces.
One who as a private sector business executive understands job creation and promoting free trade to support American made product exports.
One who believes in American energy independence by exploiting the natural resources we have in this country and creating a regulatory environment that encourages this.
One who as governor cut taxes in his state by $ 400 million dollars and pushed pro business policies.
One who as governor, his state was ranked number one in job creation and was rated by the Pew Research Center as the best managed state in America.
One whose record of cutting government spending, streamlining government bureaucracy and cutting taxes earned him a second term as governor of his state with 78% of the vote.
One who beside being a successful corporate executive and governor has long career in public service. Here are some examples: Staff assistant to Ronald Reagan. State director of the 1984 Reagan-Bush campaign. Deputy Secretary of Commerce for East Asia. Ambassador to Singapore. Deputy US Trade Representative. US Trade Ambassador. Ambassador to China.
One who is not running for President to sell books or for his own personal vanity, but because he believes his country needs him to end the destructive path liberalism has taken us down.
One who believes in personal Liberty and self determination, as our Founding Fathers did.
One who is a solid believer in the Right to Life, with no flip flops.
One who as governor signed landmark legislation protecting the sanctity of unborn life.
One who is a man of faith and morals, who has been married for 28 years and has 7 children. Two of those children are adopted, one of which is a Chinese girl who was abandoned as a baby in a vegetable market.
One who is young, energetic, engaging and not bad looking either.
One who was an Eagle Scout and rides a Harley.
One who is actually electable.
Is that enough for you ? I can go on.
You will never get 100% of what you want from any political candidate. But no Conservative can stand up, with a straight, sober face, and say the man I just described is not a Conservative. No one can say this man does not have the qualifications to be President.
The man I described here is Jon Huntsman.
I admit, two weeks ago I would have laughed at Huntsman. But two weeks ago, I honestly had not studied the man's record. I'm not laughing anymore.
Let me address the Conservative knocks on Huntsman.
The first is that he is a Libertarian kook. Does the record I described above sound like a Libertarian kook ? I'm sorry Conservatives, but if you do not believe in a live and let live version of America, you are out of step with the men who wrote the Constitution.
The next is that he supports some sort of civil union between gay folks. It's just fact, whether you like it or not, many folks live in long term gay relationships. A civil union is more akin to a business partnership and has nothing to do with the religious union of marriage.
No one is talking about forcing your church to agree to this or force your pastor to perform gay marriages. Civil unions are a legal matter, a contract and nothing more than that.
Plus, any sort of gay marriage legislation is never going to make it through Congress. So, if this is the political bug up your rear end, don't let it bother you too much.
Then we have the fact that Huntsman believes in evolution. I happen to believe in evolution. If you don't, that's fine. What the heck does this have to do with being President ?
If gay marriage and evolution are your major political issues these days, maybe you should reconsider voting in the first place. I hear Reader's Digest and Crosswords are both excellent weekly publications you could use to divert your attention from politics.
Huntsman believes in global warming. I do too. I just think it is not caused by man and that is the important distinction to make. Romney and Gingrich both believe global warming is caused by man, they have said so. They both support some form of carbon taxes, they have said this too. If you look at Huntsman's energy policies, he is basically Drill Baby Drill
The hardest knock on Huntsman is that he accepted President Obama's nomination to be the Ambassador to China, so the talk radio goofs all call him a liberal. Let me tell you about this so called liberal.
Regardless of political party, if you are a patriotic American and the President of the United States calls on you to serve your country, would you say no ? I wouldn't.
President Obama couldn't find any Democrat or any liberal who was more qualified for this job than Huntsman. He accepted this job for his country, not for President Obama.
After two years in this job, he realized that President Obama's policies were misguided and he resigned. He was so disgusted with Obama that he came back to America and decided to run against President Obama. This is no turncoat, this is a patriot, a man who has the conviction of his beliefs.
We have been on the 'anybody but Romney' merry go round for a while now. We have vetted our candidates and we are supposedly left with Gingrich and Romney.
I understand why many Conservatives oppose Romney, we have this aversion to the next guy in line rule that the Republican establishment has imposed on us for decades. While Romney is competent to be President, he is no Conservative. He at least has a chance to win.
I say this with true conviction, Gingrich has zero chance of beating Obama. A 68 year old troll with no appeal to young folks and he inspires no one. Newt Gingrich is a slime bucket, who is a poster boy of what is wrong with politics.
A man who got rich off of his personal connections with Washington. If Newt doesn't want to call himself a lobbyist that is fine, but it doesn't take a 8th grade education to know what he is. Women who engage in these activities are called prostitutes among other things.
Gingrich is a man who has no qualifications to be President other than managing his own fat bank account. A man whose belief system is like a flag blowing in the wind. A womanizer on the level of Bill Clinton and Herman Cain. Any person who says they are a Conservative and supports Newt Gingrich is a liar, at least about being a Conservative.
I am now speaking to you real Conservatives, you Tea Party folks who can't seem to take the blinders off. We do not have to settle with Romney, we still have an electable candidate, a Conservative one. His name is Jon Huntsman. I ask you to give him a chance, this election is too important not to.
