MediaPolitical's Super Tuesday Observations and Thoughts.

By Donna Cole. Posted 3:08 AM CST

First off, we do not have the Alaska results yet, we don't need them because Sarah won. Yes, that was a joke. She was not on the ballot.

Next is that Newt Gingrich won Georgia pretty easy. He is a Georgia boy and the others pretty much gave it to him. Newton either finished a distant third or fourth in all the other states. If Gingrich actually cared about the Republican Party he would drop out tomorrow. I know that some might say the same thing about Dr. Paul, but he is doing this for a purpose.

Dr. Paul is trying to bring Libertarian beliefs to the Republican Party and lay planks in it's platform for the future. Agree with him or not, he has a cause, an honorable one and he is going about it in an honorable way. Newton is in this for one reason, his own vanity. He could care less about the conservative movement, he is much more interested in looking at himself in the mirror. Too bad it's a fun house mirror and he looks like a buffoon. And even worse is that his reflection is cast upon the rest of us.

Please do not give me this nonsense Newton would beat Barry SO bad in a debate either. Who cares ? Barry will take all 50 states in an election against Newt, even Georgia. If Newt cared one bit about anything other than himself, he would have already quit. Newton is damaging our party, Dr. Paul is not. Poll numbers prove this.

While Mitt Romney didn't lose Ohio tonight, he didn't win it either. He couldn't score the knock out. And really, Santorum fought it to a draw. More on that later. Once again, Romney had the chance to put this whole nomination in his pocket, and he couldn't do it. When Romney wins this nomination, and I think he will, he will limp into the convention and then the general election so badly bruised up that it will be a mountain for him to climb, but one I think he still can.

Santorum was able to overcome a lot of negative press about him and Romney's negative campaign against him. I think he learned from this, and he has smartly pivoted from the social issues to the economic ones while tying it into a vision for America, one that sells to middle class and blue collar folks. He has these folks ear now.

This is why I think Santorum has gone beyond being the "I'm not Romney" candidate. Rick is the only candidate I feel who has been able to articulate a vision, that is what people want from a presidential candidate. The big and inspirational ideas, not nuts and bolts. He is connecting with those so called "Reagan Democrats". I know many social Conservatives do not like this, but it's the economy stupid.

Santorum needs to be sure to keep the moral high ground, but without preaching, and stay on message about a Conservative economic vision to hold middle class and blue collar voters, many of whom lean left. I now honestly believe he has a chance against Barry. I say this because I think Rick is figuring it out too. I think Rick's working class message and underdog status will work against Obama as well.

Santorum's "victory" speech was the best speech I have ever heard him give. Better than his passionate speeches on abortion or bulldogging Rusty Feingold on the senate floor over partial birth abortion. I still think Romney will find someway to win the nomination. And I hope all of you understand that a brokered convention will mean two things for us.

First, our nominee will not be any of the candidates running today. Second, I still give Barry a 58% or so chance of beating anybody we nominate, a candidate coming out of a brokered convention would have a 0% chance of beating the President.

While it creates great TV and radio, we are eating ourselves alive in this process. You cannot compare it to Barry and The Hills going at it in '08. Somebody has gotta give at some point and we unite behind one candidate and focus on our real goal. I believe the person who has to give is either Santorum or Romney. I don't see either saying uncle soon.

Regardless of who ultimately gets the nomination, we must put all our personal issues and biases aside. Having said that, I do not believe in a million years Gingrich will or can get the nomination. If he somehow does, I will no longer be a Republican. I cannot as a person of good conscience and solid standing cast a vote for him, and I have never missed an election, even for city dog catcher, since I was 20 years old. I will not muddy my soul with Gingrich on my shoe.

The circus is not over yet, so let's pack the wagons, hitch the mules and move on to the next show. I feel like we have a few more performances to go, that will end in a three ring show. I just hope we can still make Barry the clown in the finale.
