Hermanator flys high,Perry crashes and burns.

By D.C.

This new Zogby poll shows Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain jumping out to a 20% point lead over his other Republican rivals and beating Obama 46% to 44%.He is the only Republican beating Obama in the poll.

Cain leads the field with 38% among likely Republican primary voters, followed by Romney with 18% and Perry with 12% tied with Ron Paul for 3rd place.Perry has crashed since his August high of 41% and his campaign is on life support nearing death.Romney has been steady at 17-18% and cannot seem to connect with the Republican conservative base or advance above 20%.

The steady rise of Cain from 3rd tier candidate to the leader of pack shows the conservative base's distaste for the overall Republican field.Once a candidate not taken seriously now is taken very seriously, with his new ideas on taxes and his proven history of leadership in the private sector,by the conservative base.

It is hard to tell if Sarah Palin announcing she is out of the race had any effect on Cain's numbers.Zogby had Cain the leader in early September with 28%.This Washington Post-ABC News poll shows Romney the leader with 23% to Cain's 16%,tied with Perry's 16%.This poll also included Sarah Palin who had 10%.The Zogby poll was among likely Republican primary voters while the WaPo/ABC poll was among Republican leaning voters.

It still remains to be seen if Cain can capitalize on his success, work harder on building his sorely missing campaign staff, raise the necessary money to make a serious run at the nomination and keep his foot out of his mouth.

If Cain can show well in the Iowa and New Hampshire, then win big in South Carolina and Florida, the nomination will be his.An endorsement from Sarah Palin would also put the crown on Cain's head.

The Zogby poll shows Michelle Bachmann's plummet from the early leader with 34% in June to only 3% now, even behind Jon Huntsman's 4%.I'm sure she will see it through Iowa, but she is done.I think the same can be said for Perry due to his poor debate performances and too liberal stance on immigration.Yet,Perry will not go away quietly due to his ability to raise cash.Bachmann is hanging around hoping for a VP nod, which I doubt is coming her way.

A Cain v. Obama race would offer voters the clear difference that we conservatives have so long begged the Republican party elites to give us.We don't need another McCain or Dole.
