"Shut up!"
"No! You shut up!"
"Your ugly!"
"I know you are but what am I ?"
"Your stupid!"
"I'm rubber, your glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks on you!"
That is pretty much how last night's Great Western Republican debate went.At times,it was rather juvenile.
Rick Perry,in desperate need for a strong performance, came out swinging at Romney.I know many Conservatives are wetting their pants with glee over Perry's strong attacks on Romney. To me Perry was just as bad as he was in the other debates, only this time he was much louder.
Perry refused to follow the debate rules and just seemed to want to have a schoolyard squabble with Romney by talking over Romney. Then, when Perry actually bothered to talk about real issues,he still seemed unprepared.I don't think Perry can say an entire sentence without at least one "Ummm" somewhere in it.
I know many want to see Perry's debate performance as his "comeback",I saw him as an off putting, petty and juvenile loud mouth. What I used to see as a cocky confidence in Perry now just makes him look like an arrogant jerk.I also didn't like the fact that Perry refered to Cain twice as "brother",that can come across as racist to some people.I didn't hear him call Romney "brother". I don't think he helped his own cause at all last night.
Debate moderator, fancy pants Anderson Cooper, made no attempt at trying to control the debate. He was like a teacher who had lost control of his 3rd grade class.I think he did this on purpose.Cooper couldn't keep himself from smiling and snickering while the candidates talked (yelled) over each other and made fools of themselves.
Herman Cain is not a serious candidate and after the first 5 minutes of the debate all the other candidates thought so too.All the other candidates tryed to make themselves relative, which none of them did.
Ron Paul was Ron Paul, every time he spoke 10% of the audience clapped.
After last week's debate,I thought Michelle Bachmann was running for a VP nod,but judging by her outfit last night, she must be shooting for Secretary of the Navy.At least she did raise her hand in class to speak.
I know many Conservatives like Rick Santorum but he is just not a likeable guy.I can't explain why,but the polls prove it.
While some hardcore politicos may find debates like this exciting, the Republican party is not served by debates like this.Even though Perry got under Romney's skin and Romney got a little testy about it,Romney clearly won the debate,at least among the candidates on the stage.
Having said that,I agree with CNN's David "Rodham" Gergen,Obama was the winner of last night's debate and he didn't even have to show up.
