This is very rare, but I am going to (kind of) defend Barry on this one.

 By D.C.

Many folks have been upset that Barry O. wants to give a big speech to congress and that the time of this speech is going to conflict with the pre-game part of the Packers' season opener.I'm not going to rip on the president too much for this.

First,he is the president.Barry owns the bully pulpit. He can give a speech anytime he wants to and it's up to the media as to how they cover it.

Second, look at Barry's poll numbers. They are junk. When the liberal media isn't attacking the Tea Party, they are beating up on Barry pretty bad.Their loosing faith in him.He doesn't need those libs votes,he has those regardless,he needs their endorsements which brings with it liberal's money.

Just like the Republicans are beginning to run in a primary of their own supporters, the president is running in a sort of primary to win back the support of the left.Barry has time to do this now before he has to moderate himself for the general election. It's red meat time for the lefties.

Right now, the president looks weak to the left.He looks like a boxer who is down and out.Barry needs to present the image that he has picked himself up from the mat and is ready to fight again. He needs to change the media narrative. He needs to stop the bleeding.

This is why he is calling in congress. He is going to stand before them and rip on them.He can't blame Bush anymore,he refuses to admit to his own failures,so he has to blame the nation's ills on somebody. That somebody will be congressional Republicans. He is going to make totally unreasonable demands of them.

The liberals will hoot and holler. The liberal media will brush off any Republican response as "more of the same".The cover of Time magazine next week will have an up close photo of Barry's face with an angry look.It will have a headline like this,"President ready to fight for America!"

While I totally disagree with the president's policies,I understand what he is trying to do here.If I was advising him,I would want him to do something like this.I'm sure his speech will be full of petty attacks and no real substance, but he has nothing else.I would want him to stop the bleeding as soon as possible. It's just this is sort of a bad week for it.

Let's look at the calender for next week.

Monday is Labor Day.All congressmen will be in their home districts.Tuesday, the congressmen will be trickling back into Washington. The president can give a speech anytime. But he must give this speech in front of congress so he can look down on them and rip them.

This is the president's chance to do this on national TV,to tell the electorate that he is still here. This is his chance to hammer the Republicans while they have to quietly sit there and take it.A president can only call these full sessions of congress,to listen to him, very rarely. The president has held this card for a while, now he chooses to play it.That's what makes this speech important to him,the political theater of it,not the content.

We come to Wednesday. The Republican primary debate is on this day.Knowing how this president and his administration operates with cheap political tricks. It doesn't surprise me at all that he would try to overlap the Republican debate with his speech. Why not try it? Those dumb Republicans might actually let you get away with it.Thankfully they didn't.

Let's skip Thursday for a minute.

We come to Friday and the weekend. The president doesn't want to give a speech like this on a Friday.Nobody will listen. Then we have the 9/11 10th year Anniversary Remembrance.Even Barry is smart enough to not put politics into this.

So he is left with Thursday.

As a Republican pundit,I would say if the president has these great ideas and plans then why didn't he give this speech last week? Or,why doesn't he just wait until the week of the 12th if it was not so important two weeks ago?

As an adviser to the president,I wish he would have gave this speech 2 weeks ago.I can read the writing, not just on the wall but on the front page of the New York Times.I want this to stop.We have to stop the bleeding today.
I want him to give this speech before 9/11 so I can show the president's version of patriotism, ripping on the right wingers in congress.I need to do this before Americans become sentimental about 9/11.This always favors right wingers because of the citizens' feelings of patriotism brought about by 9/11.If we can't make this speech this week,we might as well put it off for two weeks.Only we don't have two or three more weeks to take this beating in the media and the polls. We need to start a come back now.

As a right wing blogger,I know this speech will be filled with petty juvenile attacks and cheap political rhetoric lacking any substance at all. This shows me just how desperate the president and his advisers are.Knowing that makes me feel pretty good.

Since I quit taking this president seriously a long, long time ago,I will not be watching MSLSD on next Thursday evening.I don't plan on missing a second of that Packers' game.
